The poem on the last image of the slide show won an award in a West Hawaii Today poetry contest and was published in a collection of
Hawaii residents' poetry. The area that inspired the poem lies directly mauka and south of Waikoloa village which didn't exist back then. Afterwards, I received many calls from local residents who shared similar
encounters. It's interesting that 1984 is the same year Mauna Loa and Pu'u 'O'o vents erupted!Part
one of the music -- "Kona Kai O'Pua" -- performed by Marcus Wong Yuen. It's part of a great collection of Big Island Artists sponsored by Hawaii Big Island Visitors Bureau available for purchase at Borders. The
chant at the end of the above song courtesy of Komo Hula Tisa Kalili. Ka Hula O Ka Moana Pakipika available for weddings, entertainment and hula workshops. Contact Thalia. |
